The Attorney-General’s Chambers (“AGC”) plays a pivotal role in Singapore’s criminal justice system, and also serves as the “Government’s law firm” by providing legal advice, representing the State in domestic and international disputes and drafting our laws. (A) Civil Division

The work of the State Counsel in the Civil Division covers a diverse spectrum of issues including constitutional Law, administrative Law, government procurement, land acquisitions, public finance and all types of regulatory matters.  You will provide legal advice, draft and vet legal documents, and represent Government in all constitutional and civil proceedings.  You will have regular opportunities to interact with policy makers and public agencies. You will be part of a team of highly motivated lawyers working on challenging legal work and delivering creative solutions to issues of national significance.

(B) Crime Division

As a Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Crime Division, you will play a critical role upholding criminal justice in Singapore. You will exercise prosecutorial discretion in determining whether to prefer charges against accused persons, advise the Police, the Central Narcotics Bureau, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau and other law enforcement agencies, and prosecute accused persons both at trial and on appeals. You will be part of a key institution in the criminal justice system, helping to bring closure to victims of crime and their families, and protecting the public interest. You will be part of a family of highly motivated prosecutors who are passionate about their mission.

(C) International Affairs Division

State Counsel in the International Affairs Division take charge of a wide range of demanding international law work that advances and protects Singapore’s interest on the international plane.  You will advise Government agencies on all aspects of international law, including Air and Oceans Law, International Trade and Investment Law, International Criminal and Human Rights Law and Privileges and Immunities.  You will also represent the State in international negotiations and international dispute resolution.  If you have a passion for international law, you will find our international law practice unparalleled in terms of variety and complexity.

(D) Legislation Division

The Legislation Division is the national law drafting office. As a law drafter, you work at the heart of Government, in a dynamic environment, alongside policy-makers of all levels. If the prospect of designing, drafting and helping implement effective Government policies to make Singapore a better place excites you, or you relish the intellectual challenge in expressing a policy clearly and simply so that the law is more effective, then consider joining the ranks of law drafters in the Legislation Division; be among Singapore’s most influential writers.

Requirements:

  • At least two years of post-qualification experience.
  • Law degree from the NUS or scheduled universities.
