Mr Lucien Wong, SC

Attorney-General Mr Lucien Wong, SC 

Mr Lucien Wong, SC, was appointed the 9th Attorney-General of Singapore on 14 January 2017. Mr Wong graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Singapore in 1978 and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1979.

He started legal practice the following year as a legal assistant in Drew & Napier, and rose to become a partner of the firm in 1982. From 1987 to 1998, Mr Wong was a partner at Allen & Gledhill. He was managing partner of the firm from 1998 to 2012, when he became chairman and senior partner.

Mr Wong has more than 30 years of experience in legal practice, specialising in banking, corporate and financial services work. He has sat on several law review committees that reviewed amendments to Singapore Company and Securities Law.

Mr Wong was appointed Deputy Attorney-General and Senior Counsel on 19 December 2016 and assumed office as the Attorney-General of the Republic of Singapore on 14 January 2017.

Mr Lionel Yee Woon Chin, SC

Deputy Attorney-General Mr Lionel Yee, SCMr Lionel Yee Woon Chin, SC, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Law from Downing College, the University of Cambridge, UK in 1988 and obtained a Master of Laws (International Legal Studies) degree from the New York University, USA in 1999. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1993.

Mr Yee started his legal practice in the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) in 1991. He has held appointments in the Civil Division, the International Affairs Division and the Criminal Justice Division of the AGC and in the Ministry of Law. He was the Director-General of the International Affairs Division from 2008-2012.

Mr Yee served as the Second Solicitor-General from 1 January 2011, before being appointed as Judicial Commissioner on 1 February 2013. He was appointed Senior Counsel in January 2013.

Mr Yee was appointed the Solicitor-General on 1 February 2014 and assumed office as Deputy Attorney-General on 14 January 2017. 

Mr Tai Wei Shyong, SC

Mr Tai Wei Shyong, SC, obtained his undergraduate law degree from the University of Oxford, where he also obtained the postgraduate degree of Bachelor of Civil Law. He trained and qualified in London as a solicitor with an international law firm, and is called to the New York Bar.

He joined the Singapore Legal Service in 1999 as a Justices’ Law Clerk. He later served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor, and Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court. He was appointed Chief Prosecutor in the Attorney-General’s Chambers in 2013. In addition, he has held a number of appointments in the Singapore Public Service, including Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Mr Tai obtained an MPhil in criminology from the University of Cambridge in 2009, focussing on violence research, in particular, historical levels of homicide in Singapore.

He was appointed and assumed office as Deputy Attorney-General on 1 January 2021. 

Mr Ang Cheng Hock, SC

Mr Ang Cheng Hock, SC, graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (1st Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore in 1995 and a Master of Laws from Yale Law School in 1998. He served as a Justices’ Law Clerk in the Supreme Court in 1996 and 1997. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 1996 and admitted as an Attorney & Counsellor at Law in the state of New York in 1999.

Mr Ang joined Allen & Gledhill in 1999 and became a partner of the firm in 2000. His main areas of practice included civil and commercial litigation, international arbitration and corporate-related disputes such as shareholders’ disputes, breaches of directors’ duties, securities-related and banking litigation, defamation and professional liability. He had also represented clients in insolvency related litigation, shipping disputes and intellectual property disputes. He was appointed Senior Counsel in 2009. 

Mr Ang was appointed Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court on 14 May 2018 and High Court Judge on 1 August 2019. 

He was appointed and assumed office as Deputy Attorney-General on 1 October 2022.

Ms Daphne Hong

Solicitor-General

Ms Daphne Hong graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1991 and a Masters of Laws degree in 1995. She was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1991.

She started her career in the then-Subordinate Courts as Deputy Registrar before she was appointed as Magistrate and then District Judge. She joined the Supreme Court in 2004 and served as Senior Assistant Registrar.

In 2006, Ms Hong was appointed as a Deputy Senior State Counsel in the International Affairs Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers. She was appointed as Deputy Director-General in 2012 and Director-General in August 2016.

She was appointed and assumed office as Solicitor-General on 1 April 2022.
